Pacific View Mall Unveils New Soft Play Area Delivering Educational Cultural Experiences for Children

Grand opening event on March 1, 2014 will welcome all to the new custom themed soft play area, “Tiempo Magico,” which introduces children to Mayan mythology, animals of the jungle and celestial surprises

(Ventura, CA) February 24, 2014 – The strong popularity of Pacific View’s children’s soft play area has inspired Macerich, the mall owner to give their littlest shoppers even more of what they adore.  A brand new, even larger children’s soft play area will be officially unveiled in grand style on Saturday, March 1, 2014 during a ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening event. The family friendly attraction, “Tiempo Magico,” meaning “magic time,” is custom themed as a magical Mayan adventure and takes children on a storybook journey filled with jungle animals, an ancient Mayan pyramid and celestial surprises.

The grand opening festivities set for March 1, 2014 from 10am – 2pm, kick off with a ceremonial ribbon cutting followed by a presentation by Danza Mexica Cuauhtemoc, a local organization dedicated to the preservation of Mexica/Azteca culture, dances and traditions.  In addition, a clown, balloon animals and face painting will add to the excitement.

Mall owner Macerich together with The Legaspi Company through their business partnership of Vanguardia Malls, chose Center Stage Productions to create “Tiempo Magico” for Pacific View and specifically for its shoppers.  “When we decided to design and build a new soft play area, we saw it as the perfect opportunity to create a truly unique play experience where children’s imaginations could soar, while embracing the multicultural community we proudly serve and greatly appreciate,” explained Phil Carlson, Senior Property Manager of Pacific View.

In addition to having a one-of-a kind play atmosphere, “Tiempo Magico” also has many educational elements that point to the Maya’s expertise in advanced mathematics and astronomy as well as Mayan mythology. “Our goal was to create rich learning opportunities within a fun play environment, ultimately delivering a complete cultural and educational experience that our shoppers will value,” said José de Jesús Legaspi, President of The Legaspi Company.

Greeting guests upon entering “Tiempo Magico” are two friends, Ix-Ameyal and Al- Balam and a little dog, Pek who invite children to explore eight fun-filled soft foam structures inside the magical Mayan play environment.  The centerpiece is a large ancient pyramid, designed in keeping with the style of Maya architecture, which historically leaves openings between the walls so that light from the sacred constellations can shine through.

Along the way to the pyramid, children can be a part of the Maya mythology, secrets of the jungle and many wonders of the world.  They’ll meet and play with a host of animals in the jungle including a crocodile to crawl over, a spider goddess to climb on, message frogs for playing “leap frog,” a quetzal to slide on and crawl through, a hummingbird to ride on, a snake/kukulcan to crawl through and a jaguar to slide down.  All of these creatures have legendary significance in Mayan history.

From the outside of the play area, Alebrijes, which are brightly multi-colored Mexican folk art creatures, invite you to peer through windows to find Mayan constellations in addition to the sun, moon and Venus.

“Tiempo Magico” offers mall guests special advantages including a new, convenient location in the food court, high table top seating around the perimeter of the play area allowing parents to enjoy their meal while watching their kids, comfortable seating inside the play area, smart phone charging stations and shoe cubbies. These latest enhancements along with other family friendly entertainment including the National Geographic Kids Club, Family Movie Night, Food Truck Fridays and live entertainment every weekend, make Pacific View Ventura County’s premier shopping, dining and entertainment destination.
