In the world of holiday shopping, retail competition is fierce. Plans and preparations have been in the works for months. Large retailers such as Macy’s are making tradition-breaking decisions in the face of growing pressure from rival stores promoting holiday shopping earlier and earlier. Center Stage Productions, a leading designer, manufacturer and installer of commercial holiday decorations, answers a popular retail question – how early is too early for commercial seasonal décor?
According to the National Retail Federation’s (NRF) holiday survival kit, department stores saw nearly 24% of their total revenue come during the months of November and December in 2012, making the holiday season the top spending event of their year. Shoppers like to start shopping early to spread out spending. Each year, about 40% of consumers begin their holiday shopping before Halloween, and another 40% begin in November, according to NRF research.
November 1st will mark the first day of the holiday décor installation process for Center Stage Productions as their retail clients balance the needs of early bird and traditional shoppers. Center Stage will continue its commercial holiday décor installations through November 18th with a team of experienced installers and décor finishers who will work diligently while the stores are closed during the evening and early morning hours to avoid any disruption to shoppers.
“The holiday season is the most important time of year for retailers and our mission is to ensure that they are fully decorated with seasonal surprises designed to put their valued shoppers in the holiday spirit,” said Michael DeZaio, president of Center Stage Productions.
In addition, Center Stage Productions must have all Santa sets installed well before Black Friday, to prepare for his arrival, which often takes place two weeks prior to Black Friday.
Traditional brick and mortar retailers and shopping malls must continue to be prepared to compete with on-line shopping, which is on the rise. According to Shop.org, online holiday sales are expected to increase between 13 and 15%, compared to 3.9% for in-store sales in 2013.
“We know that shoppers have many choices and the real key to driving in-store traffic and sales is to provide an unforgettable visual experience they can’t get anywhere else,” said DeZaio. “Spectacular seasonal décor sets the tone and must be in place when and where shoppers are ready to spend.”
